Faculty of Power Engineering and Computer Technologies
The Power Engineering Faculty as a part of Melitopol Institute of Mechanization of Agriculture was founded in September 1952. In 2019, the Power Engineering Faculty was renamed into the Faculty of Power Engineering and Computer Technologies.

The faculty includes 4 specialized departments:

·         – Department of Electric Power Engineering and Electrical Technologies

·         – Professor Volodymyr Ovcharov Department of Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics

·         – Department of Computer Science

·         – Department of Higher Mathematics and Physics

·         The Faculty of Power Engineering and Computer Technologies employs 36 highly qualified teachers, including 5 doctors of science and professors, 20 candidates of science, associate professors.

The faculty trains highly qualified specialists in two specialities: 141 Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics and

122 Computer Science according to bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degree programs.

Today, the faculty has a modern material and technical base, which includes 27 specialized laboratories, practical training classes, computer classrooms, lecture halls and research classrooms.

The fields of scientific interests of the faculty are:

• carrying out the state-funded research;

• preparation and publication of monographs, training manuals, reference abstracts of lectures, scientific papers;

• preparation of doctor’s and candidate’s theses by faculty teachers and postgraduate students;

• participation of faculty teachers and postgraduate students in international, national and university conferences;

• scientific cooperation with leading agro-industrial complex enterprises of Ukraine;

• participation in international seminars and teacher internship at educational institutions of foreign countries;

• involvement of the gifted student youth in scientific work.

As part of the program of Scientific and Research Institute of Agricultural Mechanization of the South of Ukraine, the faculty carries out scientific and technical subprograms:

1. Resource and energy saving operating modes of electrotechnical complexes.

2. Development of electrotechnological methods and means of increasing the efficiency of technological processes in the agro-industrial complex

Research work which involves gifted students takes an important place in the life of the faculty. Supervision of the student scientific work is an integral part of the faculty activities. Teachers support students in preparing for international and All-Ukrainian competitions of various levels, the results of this work are certificates and diplomas. Under the supervision of faculty teachers, students publish articles, participate in all-Ukrainian and international conferences.

The most relevant areas of their research are:

• resource and energy saving during transmission and conversion of electricity;

• electrical and thermal technologies;

• electromechanical complexes and systems;

• automation of electrotechnical complexes;

• renewable energy sources and energy supply;

• systematic multilevel forecasting of the physical and mathematical training content development by the method of mathematical description and time series;

• current issues and problems of physical and mathematical sciences;

• promising directions of the scientific research in biosystem agroengineering, agricultural technologies and agroecology;

• optimal management of solutions of differential equations;

• multidimensional statistical analysis in the tasks of managing complex systems and processes;

• modelling of processes and systems in agricultural engineering tasks using MathCad, Matlab, SPSS, etc.;

• heterostructures based on porous semiconductors (Si, A2B6 and A3B5);

• mathematical modelling of the contact interaction of mechanical system elements;

• job-related mathematical training of bachelors of computer science at agrotechnical universities.

Scientific and technical conferences of professors, teaching staff and postgraduate students are held in each department of the faculty every year.

There are 32 student scientific groups, which engage 147 students, working in 4 departments mainly according to the specializations of the departments. More than 120 students have made presentations at scientific student conferences. 10 student works have been submitted to the competition, 5 works have been awarded prizes and diplomas.

Today, the faculty has an appropriate material and technical base – equipment  for visual accompaniment of lectures and practical classes, which ensures the contemporary level of the educational process and the organization of student scientific research work . Faculty teachers actively apply progressive teaching methods using innovative technologies and methods: lectures, seminars, testing. The faculty uses monitoring and teaching systems, computer visual support for classes in special disciplines.

Students of the faculty take an active part in artistic amateur activities and in review competitions of artistic amateur activities, as a result of which the diplomas of the first, second and third degrees have been won. The winners of these contests are invited to participate in the city amateur artistic events. Every year, students of the faculty take part in the gathering of excellent students, which takes place at the Saliut sports and recreation complex, where they receive honourable mentions.

Educational work is performed at the faculty at the high level. Active participation in the coordination of educational work at the faculty is taken by the bodies of student self-government (faculty student council, educational commission, student union active members, student group monitor organisation), in the activities of which students of our faculty take an active part.

In order to improve the practical training of students at the faculty, the end-to-end practical training has been introduced at agricultural enterprises, agricultural machine building plants, power supply systems, service organisations of control and measuring devices for farm automation.

The graduate of the faculty is able to:

– ensure uninterrupted operation, operation and modernization of power engineering equipment, electrical and heating networks, their repair and diagnostics;

– organize inspection and testing of relay protection equipment, automation and control and measuring devices;

– perform technical supervision of control and measuring, electrotechnical and heat engineering devices;

– monitor compliance with the instructions for operation, maintenance and supervision of power engineering equipment and electrical networks;

– organize installation and commissioning of electrical equipment;

– have theoretical and practical skills in the field of computing, programming, information systems and technologies.

After receiving a degree of the appropriate educational level, graduates are ready to work at the objects of the agro-industrial complex and enterprises of power, heat, gas and water supply of Ukraine, as well as at various IT enterprises.
