Dmytro Kravtsov, future ecologist, internship in France, 2015.
“The decision to do an internship in France came somewhat spontaneously, one September morning when I was already in my fourth year. I had to learn French from scratch, but skillful teaching by Margarita Serhiivna Vynohradova and a bit of personal perseverance allowed me to successfully pass the interview with the FEFU French delegation. The first two-month internship was a real test for me.
I chose a horse farm, where there are more than 120 of these wonderful animals. 42 of them are young, promising racehorses raised for racing. My mentor Jose, a temperamental Spaniard by origin, incredibly expressive and kind by nature, has been engaged in this activity for the third generation of his family. His wife Sebille, on the other hand, is calm and considerate, as she comes from the Scandinavian country of Norway. She is involved in political activities at the local level in her department of Vienne. The biggest surprise for me was the abundance of Spanish language in everyday life, which motivates me to learn it as well.
The essence of my internship was to take care of the horses. I also helped with some training sessions together with Jose and other workers, of whom there were six on the farm. The entire team working with Jose is made up of good and friendly people who helped me express my thoughts in French more accurately. Therefore, adapting to the French-speaking environment went somewhat unnoticed.
Overall, I gained a huge experience of communication, found new friends, and expanded my values. So I advise everyone who wants to learn languages and see the world not to hesitate, as the university provides a truly wonderful opportunity to realize oneself and learn something useful.”
