The Department of Higher Mathematics and Physics was established following the reorganization of the “Higher Mathematics” and “Physics, Theoretical Mechanics, and Theory of Mechanisms and Machines” departments in 2012. This was done in response to production needs, aiming to optimize the organizational structure and enhance the quality of training highly qualified specialists in the agrotechnological field.
Our department’s history traces back to the merger of two departments – “Higher Mathematics” and “Physics” – in 1932 in Melitopol, where a vocational-technical school for agricultural mechanization engineers was founded. The Departments of Higher Mathematics and Physics are the oldest in our university, as mathematics and physics form the foundation of fundamental education for professionals in any field.
The initial heads of the departments were: for Higher Mathematics – Associate Professor Kryzhanivskyi S.Ye. (1932-1959), and for Physics – Associate Professor Glazkov L.P. (1932-1948).
From October 1932 to September 1941, Kryzhanivskyi S.Ye. served as the head of the “Higher Mathematics” department, receiving recognition for outstanding contributions during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) and being awarded the medal “For Valiant Labor.” In 1953, he received the prestigious Order of Lenin for his achievements.

The first head of the Physics department was Associate Professor Glazkov V.P., who was the sole associate professor in the institute during that period.
