The Department of Physical Education and Sports is a structural division of the Educational and Scientific Institute of General University Training of Dmytro Motornyi Tavria State Agrotechnological University.

The main task of the department today is to improve the educational and methodological work on physical education and to bring the educational process closer to the norms and standards of the Bologna system.

Today, the educational and training process, scientific and methodical work among full-time students are carried out by 5 highly professional specialists in the field of physical education and sports: 4 senior teachers and 1 teacher, including 2 Honoured Coaches of Ukraine.

Today, the following employees work at the department:

Valerii Hazaiev – the Head of the department, an Honoured Coach and Honoured Master of Sports of Ukraine in strongman, a Master of Sports of Ukraine in powerlifting, the President of the public organization Federation of Mass Wrestling of Ukraine, a member of the Presidium of the Federation of Mass Wrestling of Europe, the Vice President of the Federation of the Strongest Athletes of Ukraine and Tug-of-war, an “Ambassador of Melitopol”, a holder of the world record, records of Ukraine and the National Register of Records of Ukraine, a Head Coach of the national team of TSATU in mass wrestling and tug-of-war, and the Founder and the Head of the Melitopol Support Foundation;

Oleksii Nesterov – senior teacher, deputy Head of the department for educational work, Head Coach of the national athletics team of TSATU;

Serhii Kubrak – senior teacher, Honoured Coach of Ukraine, Master of Sports of Ukraine of international class in kettlebell sports, Head Coach of national team of TSATU in kettlebell sports;

Altai Abdullaiev – senior teacher, Honoured Coach of Ukraine in freestyle wrestling, Master of Sports of the USSR in freestyle wrestling, Head Coach of the national team of TSATU in freestyle wrestling;

Oleksandr Mahula – teacher, Head Coach of the men’s and women’s volleyball teams of TSATU.

Practical classes in physical education are conducted taking into account the interests of students and the university’s sports facilities.

The teachers are divided into groups according to their level and qualification in various types of motor activity.

The teaching staff of the department plans, organizes, and conducts theoretical, methodological, and practical educational and extracurricular physical education classes with established groups of students and individual students at a high professional level.

In physical education classes, students can participate in sports (motor activity) groups of their own choice: basketball, volleyball, table tennis, athletics, aerobics, kettlebell sports, freestyle wrestling, badminton.

Special medical groups are organized for students with health problems.

Students with sufficient athletic training can improve their skills in the sports sections of basketball, volleyball, table tennis, football, floorball, freestyle wrestling, mass wrestling, aerobics, stretching, athletics, tug-of-war, strength athletics and kettlebell sports.

Many sports and mass events are held at the university every year:

– student sports day among faculties in 10 types of sports;

– sports day “Health” in 5 types of sports among scientific and pedagogical employees and workers of TSATU;

– sports day among student dormitories of the university;

– All-Ukrainian freestyle wrestling tournament for TSATU prizes with the support of the rector of the university;

– TSATU volleyball tournament among youth teams of Melitopol;

– sports day in the sports and health complex Saliut with 8 types of motor activity, which take into account the specifics of the sea coast;

– sports competition at the rally of excellent students in 3 types of sports;

– sports festival “Cossack Fun”;

– morning exercise festival “Movement for Health”;

– championships of Zaporizhzhia region among adults and juniors in weightlifting and freestyle wrestling;

– the Cup and the Championship of Ukraine in mass wrestling among boys and girls, juniors, men and women.

The successes of the department and sports club “Tavria-University” are based on the high level of professionalism of the teaching staff, the organization of educational and training work under the leadership of the Head of the department Valerii Hazaiev.

The support of the rectorate and deans of the university in physical culture and sports work creates a common interest, contributes to the creation of a favourable psychological climate among the staff of our educational institution, creates a sense of patriotism and pride for their alma mater.
