The Department of Civil Security was created in 2017 after the reorganization of the former Department of Occupational Safety and Health. It is a basic structural division of the university, which carries out educational and methodological activities for all specialities and provides scientific research activities in the field of occupational, fire safety and civil protection.
The department organizes teaching of general and professional disciplines, selective disciplines, as well as management of qualification works, course projects (works), industrial and educational practices.
The Department of Civil Security is a structural subdivision of the Faculty of Agricultural Technologies and Ecology.
The aim of the department is primarily the implementation of educational programs Civil Security for the specialty 263 Civil Security of the first (Bachelor’s) and second (Master’s) higher education levels through the accomplishment of educational and methodological, scientific, organizational and educative tasks.
The main tasks of the department are:
– ensuring the educational process with the components of educational programs professional orientation;
– implementation of educational plans and curriculums of educational disciplines;
– teaching educational disciplines of professional orientation;
– provision of educational programs with educational and methodical publications;
– scientific activity of lecturers in accordance with the profile of educational programs in specialties and the needs of employers;
– training of scientific and pedagogical personnel and improvement of their qualifications.
In order to fulfil these tasks, a modern material and technical base has been created at the department. The classrooms and laboratories are equipped with updated equipment. The department has a highly qualified staff of Candidates of Sciences with experience in practical and scientific work in the field of occupational health and safety.
In 2001 the Scientific-educational and methodological centre for occupational safety and health was established at the university and united science, education and production. Therefore, connection with production made it possible to create an extensive network of production practices bases, to establish relations with The State Labour Service of Ukraine, The State Emergence Service of Ukraine, The Social Insurance Fund of Ukraine, and the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration.
Scientific and pedagogical staff of the department chooses such methods and teaching tools that ensure the highest quality of the educational process and contribute to the achievement of program results. When teaching academic subjects, five classic sources of knowledge are used, namely: video in combination with computer systems, practice, visualization, a spoken word, and a book. The optimally chosen forms and methods of teaching lead to high achievements in studying.
The following elements of research are used in the scientific activity of the department: the scientific work of lectures and their following publication of articles in journals indexed by scientific and metric databases Scopus, Web of Science, the students’ work in research groups, participation in scientific conferences and publication of theses.
The student community is involved in combining education and research principles and in the union with lecturers, performs research project within the department’s research work 0121U110250 “Investigation of risks on civil security issues, development of recommendations for their reduction in Zaporizhzhia region”. The department launched “The 1st international scientific and practical internet conference ensuring civil safety in modern conditions”.
The educative work of the department includes the organization of the Civil Security week for students, lecturers and school youth in Melitopol with the participation of state bodies of Health and Safety Executives; university educational events Rescuer’’s Day (September 17), World Occupational Safety Day (April 28) with the aim of drawing public attention to civil safety; enlightening activities in educational institutions by students and teachers of the department, cooperation with public organizations.
