Мonograph is a scientific work in the form of a book with an in-depth study of one or more (closely related) topics.

It is customary among scientists to conclude any long-term work on a particular topic with the publication of a monograph containing a detailed description of the research methodology, a summary of the results of the work, and its interpretation.

In library science, the term “monograph” refers to any non-serial publication consisting of one or more volumes (a limited number of them). And this is what distinguishes it from serial publications, such as newspapers or magazines (journals).
