The Faculty of Mechanics and Technology
The Faculty of Agricultural Mechanization was born together with its educational institution, so its history is inseparable from the history of the Melitopol Institute of Agricultural Mechanization. Institute of Agricultural Mechanization (IAM). In August 2007, the Faculty of Agricultural Mechanization was renamed the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology of Tavria State Agrotechnological University,
The group of the first enrollment to the institute, and in fact to the Faculty, consisted of 100 people with experience in agriculture. Among them were M.M. Emelyanov (who later became the rector of MIАM), M.Ye. Kovalenko, V. Ivanov, P. Cherepantsev, V. Donchenko, A. Shcherbachenko, and others.
The first 96 students graduated as mechanical engineers in 1937. In total, 500 engineers were trained in the prewar years, 500 mechanical engineers were trained.
In 1939 and 1941, the Faculty was awarded first-degree diplomas and entered into the Book of Honor of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition for its success in training highly qualified engineering personnel, participation in scientific research and its implementation in production, and providing highly qualified assistance to agricultural production. In the pre-war years, the Faculty consisted of 14 departments, and the dean in 1938 was P.V. Tselikov. Until 1941, S.I. Slepp served as dean. In August-September 1941, students, teachers, and staff of the Faculty, along with the educational and material base, were evacuated to Turkmenistan (Ashgabat), where the Institute became the main structural unit of the Turkmen Agricultural Institute. I.O. Cherniavskyi was the dean of the Faculty from 1941 to 1944. In November 1943, the staff of the Institute returned to their hometown of Melitopol with textbooks and educational equipment. From 1944 to 1946, only future mechanical engineers studied here, so there was no separate position of dean, and the deputy director of the Institute, P.V. Tselikov, was responsible for educational work. At that time, students, Faculty, and staff rebuilt the destroyed premises but continued to study.
In 1949, the Faculty became an independent subdivision of the Institute. At that time, a part-time department was opened, and in 1952, the Faculty of Agricultural Electrification was established. In 1954, the Faculty opened a postgraduate program. In 1968, more than 10 students and teachers of the Faculty were awarded state awards.
Since 1946, the deans of the Faculty were: Ihnatiev H.P. (1946…1950), Manuilov A.V. (1950…1955), Paraiev A.H. (1955…1957), Smielov O.P. (1957…1968), Horodetskyi P.I. (1968…1969), Yevsiukov T.P. (1969…1975), Obernykhin V.I. (1976…1980), Konopeltsev M.I. (1981…1986), Butko D.A. (1986…1989), Mukhametshyn H.H. (1989…1993), Rohach Yu.P. (1993…1998), Maliuta S.I. (1998…2000), F. Yalpachyk (2000…2003), O. Skliar (2003…2006), A. Panchenko (2006…2008). Since September 2008, the Faculty is headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor S.V. Kiurchev.
Since its foundation, the faculty has been successfully training mechanical engineers who work in industry, agriculture and other sectors of the national economy. The annual admission to the first year is more than 250 people, and more than 1000 students study in total. Over the years, the Faculty has trained more than 20 thousand specialists.
Most of our university’s management and lecturers are also graduates of the Faculty. Among the outstanding graduates are Hero of Ukraine, twice Hero of Socialist Labor D.K. Motornyi, Heroes of Socialist Labor V.H. Pohorielov, N.D. Dovzhykov, A.D. Kolesnichenko, P.F. Mikhailenko.
To ensure high-quality training of specialists for the Agro-Industrial Complex, the Faculty’s departments have a classroom and laboratory base with a total area of 14100 m2, with more than 9000 m2 of classroom and laboratory space. The faculty has a dormitory with 800 beds, a cafeteria, a library, sports rooms, and recreation rooms.
Today, the educational process at the Faculty is provided by 7 specialized departments, which employ 85 teachers, including 18 doctors of technical sciences and professors, 67 candidates of sciences, associate professors. The departments are known far beyond the University for training highly qualified specialists, and their graduates receive high marks from industrialists.
The high level of training of specialists at the faculty has been repeatedly noted by the heads of the State Examination Commission during the state certification of graduates.
In recent years, the educational and qualification level of graduates has increased significantly. The School’s graduates work in various industries and government agencies. Among the graduates are government officials, heads of city and district state administrations, heads of district councils, managers and specialists of the agro-industrial complex, with whom the faculty maintains close ties.
The Faculty of Mechanics and Technology has introduced a dual form of education at leading agricultural and machine-building enterprises, such as the plants of Hydrosila Group (Hydrosila MZTG and Hydrosila TETIS); Research and Production Complex «Rosta»; LLC Ruslan Komplekt; Turbocom Group of Companies, LLC «Viol», LLC «GEO-ENGINEERING Ukraine», and others.
Postgraduate training is an effective method of training highly qualified personnel. The faculty members and postgraduate students have close ties with the scientific centers of Ukraine (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipropetrovs’k, etc.).
All classrooms are sufficiently provided with the necessary furniture and training equipment, which is replenished and updated annually depending on the needs. Particularly noteworthy is the availability of modern computer equipment with applied programs, which makes it possible not only to meet the needs of the educational process, but also individual student classes without restrictions, as well as the needs for organizing the production and educational process. There are laboratories equipped with operating machines and devices for laboratory work. Students and faculty members have access to the Internet.
At the same time, the long-term plans of the university management outline serious ways to further improve and strengthen the material base of the educational process of the university and the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology in particular.
The Faculty of Mechanics and Technology is the backbone of the Dmytro Motornyi Tavria State Agrotechnological University.
