    The Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, as a structural part of the Educational and Scientific Institute of General University Training, was created on August 26, 2015, by merging the departments of Ukrainian Studies and Philosophy and Sociology.
Today, the department has 9 employees, including 1 professor, doctor of philological sciences and 7 associate professors, candidates of the following sciences: historical, philological, pedagogical, philosophical; 1 senior teacher and 1 senior laboratory assistant. The department is headed by  Candidate of Historical Sciences, associate professor Volodymyr Mykhailov.
The department’s development strategy consists in the introduction of new methods and techniques for the activation of students’ educational activities, the organization of scientific work and educational activities. The department is teaching a wide range of disciplines for students of all the faculties of the university.
The employees of the department direct educational work to activate the intellectual and spiritual potential of young people, improve their linguistic culture, deepen their knowledge of the history of Ukraine, philosophy, sociology, political science, psychology and pedagogy, using modern teaching methods and techniques.
The teachers of the department are authors of textbooks and manuals on the basic disciplines taught at the department: history and culture of Ukraine, Ukrainian language (for specific purposes), political science, art of negotiation, philosophy of science, psychology, conflictology, sociology.
Teachers of the department annually publish articles in journals indexed by the scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science, participate in international scientific conferences.
The topics of research of scientific and pedagogical staff of the department:
– socio-political movements in Ukraine;
– historical regionalism;
– globalization;
– socio-psychological resources of the individual
comparative studies as a science;
– formation of gender culture among students of higher education;
– self-development and self-realization of the individual;
– systemic and critical thinking;
– socially active personality;
– Ukrainian literature of the 20th century;
– modern fiction;
– inclusive fiction.
The department has a sociological laboratory under the leadership of Candidate of Pedagogy, Associate Professor Halyna Taranenko.
The purpose of the laboratory is:
– ensuring a combination of academic science and practice;
– advisory assistance in the preparation, organization and conducting sociological research;
– sociological support of the activities implemented in the university, regarding monitoring of the educational process quality;
– completing orders for sociological research of the university’s structural divisions, state and non-state services and departments.
Leading specialists of the department, with the aim of involving students in purposeful scientific activity, manage the work of scientific student groups, whose members acquire the necessary skills of research work.

– philological groups Fundamentals of comparative studies and Linguist.
Scientific works were prepared under the guidance of the department’s teachers for participation in the All-Ukrainian competition of scientific research works “Holodomor 1932-1933. Ukraine remembers”. Student works were awarded diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Students engaged in scientific activities, in addition to participating in scientific conferences, are active participants in language and literary competitions named after T. Shevchenko and P. Yatsyk.
One of the priorities of the department’s activity is upbringing work. After all, the establishment of the Ukrainian national idea and the development of our state based on it requires highly qualified specialists with high moral qualities, developed feelings of patriotism, civic and national dignity, and an active life position in the state building process. The training of such specialists is carried out on the basis of the requirements of the state concept of national education and the concept of education developed at the university, taking into account the ethnic, social and spiritual characteristics of the student body. The efforts of the teachers of the department are aimed at ensuring that every lecture, practical or seminar class has an upbringing focus, and the education of students is carried out not only on the basis of certain topics’ consideration, questions, examples and facts, but also on personal assessment of various problems.
