The Department of Social and Humanities Sciences was established on August 26, 2015, through the merger of the departments of Ukrainian Studies and Philosophy and Sociology (Order No. 374-OD dated August 26, 2015).

Currently, the department consists of 16 staff members, including 1 Doctor of Political Science, 7 candidates of sciences in various fields such as history, philology, pedagogy, philosophy, and sociology. There are 6 lecturers, 2 senior laboratory assistants, and it is led by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Oksana Mykolaivna Maksymets.

The educational facilities of the department are located in buildings No. 1 and No. 9, which house lecture halls, an ethnographic room, and a laboratory for sociological research.

The department’s specificity lies in teaching a wide range of disciplines to students from all faculties of the university, including topics such as the history of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture, Ukrainian language for professional purposes, scientific language culture, jurisprudence, psychology, political science, sociology, ethics, and aesthetics.

The department’s development strategy involves implementing new methods to enhance students’ learning activities, organizing independent work, applying modular teaching technologies, and incorporating information technology into the educational process.

The department’s instructors focus on activating the intellectual and spiritual potential of students, improving their language skills, and deepening their knowledge in Ukrainian studies, philosophy, jurisprudence, psychology, and pedagogy, utilizing modern teaching methods.

Leading experts at the department aim to engage students in purposeful scientific activities, guiding the work of student research groups. The students involved acquire necessary research skills. The department emphasizes directing student research in the following areas: the language issue in modern Ukraine, electoral technologies of Ukrainian political parties, agrarian legislation of Ukraine, social philosophy, the problem of intuitionism in contemporary Western philosophy, and electoral sociology.

Under the guidance of department instructors, research papers were prepared for participation in the All-Ukrainian competition of research works “Holodomor 1932-1933 in Ukraine. Ukraine remembers.” Student works received diplomas from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Engaging in scientific activities, students actively participate in language and literature competitions named after T.G. Shevchenko and P. Yatsyk.

One of the department’s priorities is educational work, aiming to instill Ukrainian national ideals and contribute to the development of the state. This involves preparing qualified specialists with high moral qualities, a sense of patriotism, civic and national dignity, and an active life position in the nation-building process. The efforts of the department’s instructors are directed towards ensuring that each lecture, practical or seminar session has an educational orientation, fostering students’ personal assessment of various issues in addition to presenting topics, questions, examples, and facts.
