In November 23-27, 2020 the first event of the (Academic Integrity and Quality InitiativeAcademic IQ) project, which is implemented by the American Councils for International Education with the assistance of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance, was counducted.

Within the first component of the project, American Councils worked with 60 centers of internal education quality assurance of Ukrainian higher education institutions on the Zoom platform. Thus, delegated representatives from Dmytro Motornyi Tavria State Agrotechnological University took part: Oleksandr Lomeiko, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Natalia Boltyanskaya, Head of the Scientific and Methodological Center, Radmila Sklyar, Head of the Department for Monitoring Educational Quality.

The «Academic Virtue and Educational Quality Initiative» project aims to bring together the professional community of secondary and higher education teachers to sharing experiences and collaborating to support academic virtue and education quality.

The program for the first event, «Academic Virtue in the System of Internal Educational Quality Assurance in Universities», provided presentations by representatives of the American Councils for International Education during the first three days: Scott Whitmore – Assistant Cultural Affairs Attache, US Embassy in Ukraine; Anne Domorad, Senior Executive Director; David Rettinger a representative University of Mary Washington, USA; Tricia Bertram Gallant a representative of University of California San Diego, USA; Amanda McKenzie a representative University of Waterloo, Canada.  

The speakers focused on the following topics:

1) fundamental principles of academic virtue;

2) view on the quality of education from an international perspective;

3) presentation of institutional self-assessment.

On 26 and 27 November, Ukrainian speakers Yana Chapaylo – project coordinator; Egor Stadny – consultant of the project «Academic Virtue and Educational Quality Initiative»; Sergiy Kvit – Chairman of the National Agency for assurance quality in higher education; Viktor Drozdov – Head of the RMC, coordinator on academic virtue, Izmail State University of Humanities; Olga Bershadsky – director of the center for internal assurance of quality in education, National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”;

The reporters revealed the main key aspects of this event:

1) instrument for institutional analysis of academic integrity and quality of education;

2) academic virtue in the system of internal and external quality assurance of education;

3) creating a system to support academic integrity and quality: the experience of Izmail State University of Humanities;

4) Virtue in planning and evaluation of educational programs:  face-to-face training VS distance learning under quarantine conditions.
