Masnitsa (pancake week) – is a very ancient Eastern Slavic holiday, which symbolizes the meeting of spring and farewell with the long winter. The celebration lasts a whole week and ends in the end of the week – on Sunday, the day is named as Shrove Sunday, when everybody could ask for forgiveness from all people who were offended someday.
Masnitsa, symbolizes the awakening of nature from winter sleep. The ancient Slavs celebrated it as the beginning of spring agricultural works. On this day, they praised the Sun, which carried warmth and awaken nature, that is why prepared pancakes which looks like to this heavenly sunlight.
In this year Masnitsa began on February 24. In Dmytro Motornyi Tavria State Agrotechnological University this holiday was celebrated on 26 February. In the hall of CKID was organized a fair, where people could taste traditional food and of course pancakes with different types of jams .
Creative collectives of the Center of Culture and Leisure prepared a festive program with songs, games and competitions. Students took an active part in the contest «Make a handmade doll Motanka». The main guests at the festival were the quartet «Golden voices» with Oleksandra Malysheva
At the end of the celebration all participants spent a cold winter and met spring which will bring health, happiness, joy, love and well-being.
