FROM NONCLASSICAL SECONDARY SCHOOL

TO A MODERN EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY – TSATU

On September, 15th Dmytro Motornyi Tavria State Agrotechnological University celebrated the 86th anniversary of its foundation.

The history of Dmytro Motornyi Tavria State Agrotechnological University began with the appearance of Melitopol nonclassical secondary school in 1874. Since then the future university originated through a professional technical school, a polytechnic vocational school, a technical school…

The independent functioning of Melitopol Institute of Mechanical Engineers of Agriculture began in 1932.

In 1941 the Institute was awarded a 1st degree Diploma and made an entry in the Book of Honor of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition.

During the Great Patriotic War, the institute was evacuated to Ashgabat (former Turkmenia) and didn’t return to Melitopol until 1944. That same year it was renamed as Melitopol Institute of Agricultural Mechanization (MIAM).

In subsequent years the educational establishment kept developing: new departments, faculties and specialties appeared, the number of students as well as doctors and candidates of sciences among the teaching staff increased.

In 1981, the excellence of MIAM in preparing highly skilled professionals was honored with a prestigious government award – the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.

In 1993 the educational establishment was licensed to carry out educational activity and at the same time obtained accreditation level IV.

In 1994 MIMA changed its name into Tavria State Agrotechnical Academy.

In 2007 the educational establishment received the status of Tavria State Agrotechnological University. Graduates of the University, former lecturers and honorary guests gathered for the celebration.

On the festive day, the audience and guests of the university were greeted by athletes and amateur performers. Among them were athletes from the University’s teams of freestyle wrestling and kettlebell lifting. They demonstrated their abilities with the guidance of honored coaches of Ukraine, teachers of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Altai Abdulaiev and Serhii Kubrak.

On the occasion of its anniversary, the University was greeted by the Cossacks from the “Time” theater directed by Borys Tumenko.

The event was attended by the participants of the vocal-choreographic ensemble “Siaivo Tavrii” of the local palace of culture named after Taras Shevchenko. Moreover, the youngest Cossacks from secondary school №23 greeted the guests by showing their skills in martial arts.

The festive performance was accompanied by the sounds of the municipal orchestra conducted by Pavlo Kostytsia.

Then the celebration of the anniversary continued at the Center for Culture and Leisure at University.

Our glorious university was attended by the authorities of the region: the Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, Kostiantyn Bryl, the Chairman of the Zaporizhzhya Regional Council, Hryhorii Samardak, as well as the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ihor Artiushenko.

“I would like to wish you further development, so that your material and technical base only improved, may all your dreams come true, and may your graduates come for a reunion every year. Happy anniversary, and all success for your future endeavors”, – with these words the governor finished his complimentary speech.

He also awarded the title of Honored Worker of Science and Technology to the lecturer of the University, Professor Anatolii Volokh, and Professor Volodymyr Didur obtained a Certificate of Appreciation from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The rector of the university received a watch from the head of the regional state administration. Also, the Certificates of Appreciation from the regional state administration were presented to the Dean of the Faculty of Agrotechnology and Ecology, Iryna Ivanova, and the Head of the Department of Management, Svitlana Nesterenko.

The staff of TSATU was awarded the Order of 1st class “For Merit to the Zaporizhzhia Region”. The rector of the University received this award from Hryhorii Samardak. The Orders of 3rd class “For Merit to the Zaporizhzhya Region” were given to the Chief Accountant, Tetiana Krutikova and the Director of the Institute of Postgraduate Education, Hennadii Podshyvalov.

The staff of TSATU was awarded the Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “For Merits to the Ukrainian People”, which was presented by Ihor Artiushenko.

Valentyna Kalytka, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor of the Department of Crop Production, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, was awarded the Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for special scientific achievements and significant contribution to the development of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine. Volodymyr Nadykto, Vice-Rector for Scientific Work, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Full Member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Ukraine, was awarded a breastplate “For Scientific and Educational Achievements”.

Ihor Nazarenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Energy was also awarded the Badge of Honor “For the introduction of innovations in education” for many years of hard work, a significant personal contribution to the training of qualified specialists and productive educational work.

Among other awards were:

  • Certificate of Honour of the Executive Committee of Melitopol City Council;;
  • Honorary Award from the Agrarian Union of Ukraine;
  • Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
  • Certificate of Acknowledgement from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;;
  • Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Education and Science of Zaporizhzhya Regional State Administration;
  • Certificate of Honour from the Melitopol District Council and many more.

Also, among the speakers was Serhii Minko, the mayor of Melitopol.

Our University family received congratulations on the occasion of its anniversary from Dmytro Motornyi, Hero of Ukraine, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, Merited Agriculture Worker of Ukraine, chairman of the board of the private-leasing cooperative “Zoria” and a graduate of our university of 1959.

The words of greeting were given to another graduate of our university, Hennadii Novikov, the Chairman of the Public Association “Agrarian Union of Ukraine”, the Chief Executive of the private enterprise “Ascon”.

The University was greeted on behalf of an enormous scientific family by the honorary guests from Kyiv: Valeriy Adamchuk, member of NAAS of Ukraine, Director of the National Scientific Center “Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture”, and Volodymyr Bulgakov, member of NAAS of Ukraine, Professor of National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine.

The representatives of fellow universities of the European Union also expressed congratulations the University: Hristo Beloev, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and Volodymyr Kromko, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor of Slovak University of Agriculturel in the city of Nitra.

Ihor Butko, the Head of the sector of agrarian and special education of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, addressed the audience with words of greetings.

The associate manager of the state institution “Scientific and Methodical Center of Information and Analytical Support of Higher Educational Institutions “AgroEducation”, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Tetiana Ischenko and Head of the Department of Education and Science of Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Tetiana Ozerova joined in extending congratulations.

Also the university was greeted by its alumni: Oleksandr Manhul, Head of Melitopol District State Administration, and Oleksandr Mordyk, Chairman of Melitopol District Council.

Poet from Melitopol, author of four poetry collections, graduate of the university, head of metrology department “Zaporizhzhia Standard Metrology” Valerii Rozov expressed his greetings to the university staff.

Honoured Artist of Ukraine, singer and composer Ivan Popovych congratulated everyone on the occasion of the eighty-fifth anniversary with heartfelt Ukrainian songs.

Nowadays TSATU is an educational and scientific manufacturing complex. It consists of 6 colleges and 6 institutes. The five faculties of the University carry out the training of specialists in 19 specialties. Among the teachers of the university are about 40 doctors of sciences, professors and more than 250 candidates of sciences, associate professors, 3 correspondent members of NAAS of Ukraine, 10 members and correspondent members of non-state academies of sciences of Ukraine, honoured workers of science and technology, honored workers of education, honored inventors, distinguished workers of agrarian education and science of Ukraine.

One of the main areas of activity in the educational process is providing practical training. For this purpose, the Regional Centre for Applied Research was created at the University on the basis of PJSC “Stepnoi” and the Academic and Research Production Center in Lazurne village.

Over the last few years TSATU has been repeatedly presented with success at international and national exhibitions, presentations, and various educational forums and events.

Over the years TSATU was awarded by the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine with the Grand Prix “Leader of Higher Education of Ukraine” (twice), “Leader of Scientific Activity”, “Leader of International Activities”, gold medals in various nominations, diplomas.

At international trade fairs “Agro” TSATU was awarded the Certificate of Merit “For conscientious work, high professionalism, a significant contribution to the development of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine” from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, as well as with gold medals and VIP-level diplomas in various nominations. These are to name just a few of the awards and titles that the university has obtained.

Nowadays TSATU is the leading institution of higher education in the south-eastern region of Ukraine, which is dynamically developing, confidently moving into the future to new heights and achievements. In the modern context TSATU carries on its glorious traditions, it remains at the forefront of modern Ukrainian universities, actively implementing modern methods and technologies in accordance with the best European and world standards.
