IMG_3791Melitopol has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the USAID Economic Support for Eastern Ukraine project, implemented by the US Agency for International Cooperation. Business development, information technology and tourism are the main areas that will help us to realize our foreign partners.

The memorandum of cooperation was signed on September 17 in the conference room of the Center for Administrative Services by USAID Economic Support for Eastern Ukraine Michael Pillsbury and Roman Romanov, Secretary of the Melitopol City Council. The document provides for three main areas of activity: stabilization of the local economy; development of small and medium-sized enterprises and their integration into the economy of the region and Ukraine; raising the population’s faith in the economic success of Eastern Ukraine, including Melitopol.

Deputy mayor, professor of the TSATU named after Dmytro Motornyi Sergey Priym noted that the main work will be focused on tourism, hospitality industry and IT-technologies. In particular, the tourism industry, together with market participants, will develop niche offers, look for new prospects and ways to develop the hospitality industry, taking into account the historical heritage of the area.

In Melitopol, USAID representatives visited a number of sites that will support business and tourism development. Among them is the Tavria State Agrotechnological University. It is our educational institution that trains professionals in the field of tourism and IT technologies. Having studied the problems and needs of the city, the US partners, together with the city authorities, identified concrete steps for further cooperation.

On September 17, the project manager Michael Pillsbury and other delegation representatives met with the TSATU leadership. The main rationale for cooperation was the need for development in the southern region of Ukraine, the ability to monitor and control the quality of raw materials and products of agricultural origin. In particular, the solution of the problem of logistics. After all, products that are planned to be exported to EU countries must be subject to appropriate quality control.

A modern laboratory that will be able to carry out such quality control on all necessary indicators will be a training and experimental base for scientists and students, where they will be able to conduct research. And most importantly, it will allow for comprehensive monitoring of products grown in the region. In this way, the safety of fruits and vegetables will be achieved in accordance with the world requirements.

Therefore, the delegation members were acquainted with the potential projects of the TSATU named after Dmytro Motornyi, within which it is possible to implement important projects together with USAID.
