People in Ukraine study a lot of foreign languages: French, German, Spain, Italian and some others. But English is the most popular. Why is it so? In my opinion, there are several reasons for its popularity. First of all, most children start studying it at school then we study it at universities since English is one of the most common languages.
This language is spoken in more than 120 countries. It is the working language of the United Nations.
Secondly, it is easier to learn it than other languages.
Thirdly, English is the language of the world’s media and of the Internet. English is often used in computer programs.
English attracts me because it is used everywhere: for example, on the packaging of goods and in their instructions – and I want to understand what is written there. Nowadays, we use a lot of borrowed English words in the Ukrainian language. And we may not understand their meaning or we may use these words incorrectly because we don’t know English. I don’t like word misusage and I strive to learn vocabulary very well.
I believe that every modern person needs to know foreign languages. But first of all, it is important to know English.
It will help you both at work and in everyday life for your contacts with people from other countries are growing. We need English when we travel around the world, because we can meet English-speaking people in almost every country.
Nowadays, English is the means of communication for people of different professions. Here are few of them: politicians, pilots and air traffic controllers, scientists, etc. More and more people in Ukraine learn English for their future career. Nowadays, many employers require their employees to speak a foreign language for it is necessary to cooperate with partners and to deal with papers. The exchange of specialists in different spheres of life is practiced worldwide today.
When we know a foreign language and listen to our favorite music in the original – this is a wonderful feeling. Many good books and movies are even more amazing in their original language. After all, we can understand that the authors, actors or singers want to convey to us and we do not need any translators. This is one more reason to learn English.
