Ukraine has many own national holidays, but as an European country, it is opened for studying and implementation of new traditions. Halloween has become the tradition of celebrating an event, the origin of which few people were interested in, but this does not prevent people from having fun on October 31 and celebrating it.

This day became a holiday more than 2000 years ago. Nowadays, no one guesses what the Celts actually celebrated, what they believed in and what they feared during  this period.

On October 27, 2022, students of 22САІ group specializing in “Agro engineering” had the opportunity to investigate the roots of the holiday origin and the history of its development and transformation. The students looked into the mystical world of the Celts and learned about the meaning of the Samhain holiday and the reasons why people dress up in Halloween costumes. It was informative to look into the role of the Orthodox Church in the transformation of the history and holiday name, the peculiarities of the Halloween celebration in the USA, find out how the celebration on this day affects the economy of the countries.

The issue of the appropriateness of celebrating Halloween in Ukraine caused a heated discussion. Most students admitted that they do not consider it a holiday, do not celebrate and are not going to celebrate it in the future. The second part of the group, after watching a video about the features of the celebration, recognized that the holiday was adapted to Ukrainian customs and differs from the way it is celebrated in other countries. During the educational event, students watched interesting videos in English about Halloween and completed various tasks, compared modern horror films and films of the middle of the 20th century using the example of a video with Michael Jackson. At the end of the event, students were invited to take part in a quiz, which was created on the basis of the Kahoot game platform, and test their knowledge about Halloween.
