On October 19, 2022, the Department of Foreign Languages held an online seminar for scientific and pedagogical staff of TSATU on the topic “Writing grant applications in English.”

The grant activity for scientists is one of the most priority activities today, as it offers new opportunities for the realization of a scientific idea and project and expansion of the potential impact of one’s own research.

Preparing the actual grant application is a time-consuming process, but the prospects that open up after receiving the grant are worth all the effort.

The aim of the seminar was to increase motivation and encourage scientific and pedagogical staff of TSATU to participate in international grant activities.

During the seminar, the speaker, senior teacher of the department, Viktoriia Lemeshchenko-Lagoda, drew attention to a number of issues that require  consideration during the preparation of the grant application:

– procedure for finding grant proposals;

– formulation of the name of the project;

– indication and description of the problem that is expected to be solved during the operation of the project;

– formulation of the goal, tasks and results.

In the second part of the seminar, the writing of the grant application in English was considered directly. The speaker drew the audience attention to:

– general requirements regarding the style and design of grant applications;

– writing an abstract;

– peculiarities of using time forms when filling out different parts of the grant application.

Practical material was also provided, namely standard clichés that can be used when writing grant applications in English.

We hope that the seminar held and the material provided by the speaker Viktoriia Lemeshchenko-Lagoda will be useful for the intensification of the grant activities of the scientific and pedagogical staff of TSATU.
