Valentine’s Day, February 14, is an unofficial holiday of all lovers, which has passed through the centuries and is widely celebrated around the world today. This day, when the name of the saint is mentioned, can only compete with St. Nicholas Day in terms of popularity.
Although Valentine’s Day has a pronounced romantic character, the gifts and traditions of its celebration differ in different countries. For example, in France, jewelry and expensive decorations are considered the best gift on this day, and in Denmark, dried white flowers. In Italy, the holiday is called a sweet day, so Italians give each other sweets and cakes decorated with doves and hearts. In Finland, February 14 is celebrated as Friend’s Day, so on this day, residents of the country congratulate not only their loved ones, but also their best friends. Finns also celebrate women’s day on this day, like the holiday of March 8.
And it has already become a tradition in English language classes. The senior teacher Iryna Kryvonos congratulates her students (41FT, 31FT, 32SAE) on this holiday. This year, she prepared for students a festive presentation about unusual traditions and a fun quiz about the symbols of Valentine’s Day. Students recalled how they celebrated this holiday at school and what the holiday was like while studying at their native university. They even showed photos from the photo zone of the Faculty of Agricultural Technologies and Ecology for February 14, 2021.
