Valentine’s Day is a holiday that was not unique to our country, but has gained popularity in recent years. Unfortunately, few people are interested in the history of the holiday origin, which has three different versions and one of them is quite sad and is taken as a basis. We are talking about the priest Valentine, who, against the wishes of Emperor Claudius, married couples. For this reason, Valentine was thrown to the jail, where he found his love and performed the last miracle – he restored his girlfriend’s sight. The story ended tragically, Valentine was executed on February 14.

Students of 31-32 groups specialty “International Economy” learned about these events at the English language class dedicated to St. Valentine’s Day. A vivid video showed the students all the features and tragic moments of that time.

Of course, every holiday consists of music, gifts and poems. Students of higher education had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the text of a modern love song performed by the singer Miley Cyrus, listen to it and complete various listening tasks, translate and discuss the meaning of the song, and offer their options for solving the problems encountered in the text. The class also discussed such issues as the existence of love feelings and love at first sight, moral qualities that modern youth would like to see in their partner, places where you can find your soulmate, and the most romantic gifts for the holiday. Young people shared interesting stories that once happened to them on this day.

At the end of the class, the students were asked to be creative and compose small poems in English with a given basis of the poem for St. Valentine’s Day. The resulting masterpieces were better than the original.

The Department of Foreign Languages congratulates everyone on the holiday and wishes to be loved and receive signs of attention from each other not only on February 14, but every day of your life.
