Every third Thursday of May Ukraine celebrates Vyshyvanka Day. The holiday is not official or religious, but it unites the whole country and Ukrainians abroad, which really makes it bright and beautiful. To join the celebration, you just have to wear a traditional embroidered shirt on this day.

Vyshyvanka Day is a young holiday. Ukrainians began to celebrate it only in 2006, but it has already become very popular, not only in Ukraine, but also abroad.

The idea to hold a holiday was proposed by a student of the Chernivtsi National University named after Yuri Fedkovich Les Voroniuk. According to her, this happened by accident. During a break at the university, she met her friend, who wore an embroidered shirt, and she invited everyone to wear in embroidered shirts at the same time and invite their closest friends to do so.

So, this started the World Vyshyvanka Day. Initially, only a few dozen students and teachers wore embroidered shirts on this day, but after a while, the holiday became all-Ukrainian, and then world-wide.

Ukrainian traditions are highly appreciated by students of TSATU, so they actively participate in events organized by the teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages. To join the celebration of Vyshyvanka Day, besides wearing vyshyvankas on this day, second-year students of the specialty “Management” took part in a holiday quiz “Unlock the Ukrainian DNA”, which was held on the Educational Portal.  First, they had an opportunity to get some interesting facts from the history of vyshyvanka and the history of the holiday. Then, they could show their knowledge of our traditions, culture and history by completing a challenge. The quiz included 25 questions with a time limit, which created a competitive and fun atmosphere. Each of the participants was excited to get on top of the score board.

All in all, the event got excellent reviews from the future managers, as it helps young Ukrainians to show their national identity to each other and to the world. We are proud to be Ukrainians!
